Long live the Good Food
I may not define myself as a glutton, still I can say I have a genuine passion for good food. Food that gives joy to the eyes and the mouth. That smells good and tastes better, like a fond memory or a powerful discovery, but yet it is healthy. Thinking of which, I want to pitch my latest discovery in terms of healthy and delicious food: a sumptuous “Svaporata” of shellfish and raw veggies I had the pleasure to enjoy on my latest trip to the Tuscan Coast, to the precious Forte dei Marmi beach. I was there to celebrate my birthday, on a sunny, winter day. The weather was so nice I had lunch with my beloved ones straight in the outside garden of a beach restaurant. The menù was all enticing, it enlisted some of my favorite dishes like “gnocchi with langoustines” and “roasted fish with herbs”, but the “Svaporata” really got me. It was essential in its ingredients, steamed shellfish, raw veggies like artichokes hearts, cherry tomatoes, sliced carrots and celeries, with olive oil, salt and lemon juice to dress it. Simple simple. Yet stunningly delicious. A pleasure for both eyes and palate. What topped it all was the fact that a dish that good was relatively easy to make and was amicable for an healthy diet. I know, I know: shellfish isn’t good for every diet, but still the quantity wasn’t huge and combined with the veggies and the all raw vinaigrette, it came out as a real winner. A sure plus is that it’s easy to replicate at home. It may not come out that beautiful to see, but who cares?
